Love this! How did you do it? Did you start with splines and loft the swirls, or a primitive shape and use the Graphite Tools to pull out the branches?
Downloaded the l system tool from the Splutterfish website. Made one. Made a sphere. Then created a particle system that went on the surface of the sphere. Used the mesher tool to make it an editable poly. Deleted the sphere after I made the particle system an editable poly. Twisted some and then brought it into Blender to render it.
L-Systems are great, and you really turned this one into an even more interesting shape. I wouldn't have guessed you started with LSystem here actually. Very good work! I've got two renders cooking now I think you might like.
